Simone Vannuccini

Simone Vannuccini is chair of economics of artificial intelligence and innovation at Université Côte d’Azur.
His research focuses on the economics of innovation, artificial intelligence, general-purpose technologies, industrial dynamics, digitalization, multi-sided platforms, and industry life cycles. His current work examines the effects of artificial intelligence on the semiconductor industry, scientific discovery, and the emergence of new industries.
Before joining Université Côte d’Azur, Vannuccini was a lecturer in the economics of innovation at the Science Policy Research Unit at the University of Sussex. He also served as a visiting lecturer at Imperial College London and as an adjunct professor at the University of Insubria. Earlier, he was a research fellow at Friedrich Schiller University Jena, where he also completed his doctoral studies in a joint program with the Max Planck Institute of Economics.
Vannuccini has also held research appointments with the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
He co-edited the “Handbook of Research Methods and Applications in Industrial Dynamics and Evolutionary Economics” and has contributed chapters to several books on innovation, industrial policy, and technological change.
Vannuccini earned a Ph.D. in economics of innovative change, summa cum laude, from Friedrich Schiller University Jena. He also earned a master’s in advanced development economics and a bachelor’s from the University of Florence.
