ICLE is Hiring a Senior Research Fellow!

The International Center for Law and Economics (ICLE), a nonprofit, nonpartisan think tank and research center based in Portland, OR, is looking for a full-time Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow to perform research, writing and public outreach on a broad range of policy issues. 

The ideal candidate will have experience thinking and writing in the law & economics tradition of Armen Alchian, Harold Demsetz, Ronald Coase, Henry Manne, and James Buchanan. A law degree or graduate degree in economics is required, and previous experience in a policy or academic position is preferred. 

This position offers a highly competitive salary, excellent benefits and a flexible schedule. The Research Fellow can work from either our co-working space in Washington, DC or our Portland office. Some travel and public speaking are required.

Description

ICLE scholars analyze issues ranging from competition policy and consumer protection, to intellectual property and licensing, technology policy, data security and privacy, financial regulation, telecommunications, and platform regulation, as well as emerging legal and policy issues related to the sharing economy, the future of work, and the Internet of Things. 

Increasingly, our work is focused on competition policy outside the US: We engage in research and analysis of the digital single market process in the EU, evolving competition policies in Asia, and in global debates about the effect of specific regulatory regimes on innovation and economic growth. Working collaboratively with the ICLE team and its network of affiliated academics, the Research Fellow will produce high-quality work ranging from academic research suitable for publication in respected journals to regulatory comments, amicus briefs, and policy studies to op-eds, blog posts and analyses targeted for general-interest audiences.

Requirements

Candidates should possess the following attributes:

• At least two years’ experience working within nonprofit organizations, academia, private firms, consultancies, trade associations, government, or similar entities in a research or policy-related role
• Demonstrated track record of well-reasoned legal, policy, and/or economic analyses
• Law degree or graduate degree in economics required
• Familiarity with US/EU competition law and policy, telecom regulation, and current debates around platform regulation preferred
• Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse personalities and skillsets, including technical and subject-matter experts as well as generalists
• Ability to work independently on a variety of simultaneous projects
• Ability to shift priorities as needs evolve
