Jonathan W. Williams

Jonathan W. Williams is chief economist for the Federal Communications Commission.

He is also a professor of economics and the director of the Center for Regulatory and Industrial Studies (CRIS) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Before joining UNC, he was an assistant professor of economics at the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business. Most of Jonathan’s research is in empirical industrial organization. His current interests include economic and regulatory issues in the telecom, airline, and pharmaceutical industries.

He earned his bachelors from Ohio University and his PhD in economics from the University of Virginia.
