Classical Liberalism in Native America

This chapter describes the state of classical liberalism in Native America and its artificial suppression. Native America is a classical liberal’s nightmare. Property rights are weak or nonexistent. Crime is rampant. Individual liberties are not guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. And most businesses are state-owned enterprises. It does not have to be this way. The situation is not because Native Americans necessarily have a preference for this state of affairs, but rather because of various policies of the federal government. Tribal sovereignty, which is a high priority for Native Americans, has been linked to federal oversight and management of tribal resources.
