Terry Calvani

Terry Calvani is a senior advisor to the Brunswick Group in Washington, D.C., and a former commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). He joined Brunswick after retiring from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in 2019.

Calvani served on the FTC from 1983 to 1990, including as acting chairman in 1985 and 1986. He was subsequently a partner in the antitrust practice group of Pillsbury Winthrop. From 2002 until June 2005, He was a member of the board of the Irish Competition Authority and director of the Criminal Cartels Division in 2002 through 2005. He also held the mergers portfolio during 2003.

Earlier in his career, he was professor of law at Vanderbilt School of Law and has also taught antitrust law at the Harvard Law School, Duke University School of Law, Trinity College, Dublin, Cornell Law School and Columbia Law School (2017). More recently, he was a visitor at the Institute of European & Comparative Law, Oxford University in 2023.

He received his bachelor’s in history from the University of New Mexico and his JD from Cornell Law School.
