Steve Horwitz

Steven G. Horwitz (1964-2021) was the Distinguished Professor of Free Enterprise and Director of the Institute for the Study of Political Economy at Ball State University’s Miller College of Business. He died June 27, 2021, after a nearly four–year battle with multiple myeloma.

In 2017, he retired as the Dana Professor of Economics Emeritus at St. Lawrence University, where he taught for 28 years.

He was an affiliated senior scholar at the Mercatus Center, a senior fellow at the Fraser Institute, and economics editor at the Cato Institute’s libertarianism.org project. He was the 2020 recipient of the Julian L. Simon Memorial Award from the Competitive Enterprise Institute.

He had a PhD in economics from George Mason University and a bachelor’s in economics and philosophy from The University of Michigan.
