JW Verret

J.W. Verret is associate professor of law at George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia Law School. He is also of counsel with Lawrence Law LLC; a consultant with Veritas Financial Analytics LLC; and a board member with the Zcash Foundation. Prior to joining the faculty at Scalia Law in 2008, Professor Verret was an associate in the SEC Enforcement Defense Practice Group at Skadden Arps in Washington, D.C.

In 2013, he took leave for two years to serve as the chief economist and senior counsel for the U.S. House Financial Services Committee. He also served from May 2018 to March 2022 as a member of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Investor Advisory Committee. He was also previously a senior scholar with the Mercatus Center Working Group on Financial Markets.

He received his JD and master’s in public policy from Harvard Law School and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, respectively, in 2006. While in law school, Verret served an Olin Fellowship in Law and Economics at the Harvard Program on Corporate Governance. He then served as a law clerk for Vice-Chancellor John W. Noble of the Delaware Court of Chancery.
