Christos Pitelis

Christos Pitelis is a life fellow of Queens’ College at the University of Cambridge and a professor of strategy and international business at the University of Southampton Business School. He is also a fellow of the Academy of International Business.

His research focuses on political economy, institutions and organizations, business and public strategy, international business, corporate governance, and industrial and innovation policy. His work has developed theories of the firm, multinational enterprise, value creation, ecosystem orchestration, public entrepreneurship, and sustainable development.

Before joining the University of Southampton, Pitelis was professor and head of international business at the University of Leeds Business School. Earlier, he served as professor of strategy and head of Brunel Business School, professor of sustainable global business at the University of Bath, and professor at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He has also held several leadership and teaching roles at the University of Cambridge, including director of studies in management and economics at Queens’ College and head of the international-business subgroup at Cambridge Judge Business School.

Pitelis served as president of the Hellenic Organization of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises and Handicraft and as chair of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation. He also directed the Centre for International Business and Management and has advised businesses, governments, international organizations, nonprofits, and accreditation bodies.

He is co-editor of the Cambridge Journal of Economics and literary executor of the works of Edith Penrose.

Pitelis earned a Ph.D. in economics and a master’s in economics from the University of Warwick, a postgraduate diploma in public and industrial economics from Newcastle University, and a bachelor’s from Panteion University, where he graduated first in his class with first-class honors.
