Big Ideas Workshop: Public Choice: Law, Politics, and Institutions
ICLE’s invitation-only Big Ideas Workshop series brings together early- and mid-career scholars to discuss important ideas in law & economics.
Presented by ICLE Senior Fellows, Tammi S. Etheridge LeGrande and Jeremy Kidd, this workshop will pair classic works with contemporary theoretical and empirical scholarship, using public choice as a framework for comparative institutional analysis. Participants will examine how alternative institutions respond to problems such as collective action, rent seeking, bureaucracy, and regulatory capture and the tradeoffs that arise when institutional reforms intended to address one problem create or exacerbate another.
This is ICLE’s sixth year of Big Ideas Workshops. Prior workshops have looked at topics including the foundational work of Armen Alchian and Ben Klein, the evolution of the understanding of the Theory of the Firm, and the enduring influence of Elinor Ostrom. These meetings are designed to be collaborative, informative, and fun.
