Antitrust Under the Cherry Blossoms

May 18, 2026   12:00pm JST   Tokyo, Japan

About:

On May 18-20, the International Center for Law & Economics held a closed door conference in Tokyo, Japan. Building on the success of our previous events, this gathering was designed to bring together leading antitrust law & economics scholars and practitioners from across the Asia-Pacific region, including Japan, South Korea, Singapore, India, Taiwan, the Philippines, Thailand, Australia, and New Zealand, as well as colleagues from Turkey, EU and US, for a substantive and collaborative exchange. Our core objective was to explore how the foundational insights of law and economics can help us think about the challenges of a rapidly fragmenting, multipolar world. The agenda covered a range of current topics, including antitrust law in digital markets, ex-ante digital competition regulation, trade tensions, and the interplay between competition law, regulation, and industrial policy.
