Kristian Stout Quoted in Communications Daily on US Satellite Policy and WRC-27
ICLE Director of Innovation Policy Kristian Stout was quoted by Communications Daily regarding the geopolitical challenge the U.S. satellite industry faces ahead of the 2027 World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-27). Kristian discussed the current domestic regulatory environment alongside international pressures, noting potential strategic maneuvering by other nations and regulatory burdens proposed in the EU Space Act.
Kristian Stout, innovation policy director at the International Center for Law & Economics, said the FCC and Trump administration are especially space-industry-friendly. However, WRC-27 could see a lot of “game playing” by nations seeking to give particular jurisdictions an advantage over the U.S., he said. The EU Space Act would put “a pretty onerous set of obligations” on American launch providers, seemingly to give EU operators a leg up competitively, Stout added.
