Thinh H. Nguyen

Thinh H. Nguyen is a professor of practice and director of the Artificial Intelligence Lab at the University of Florida Levin College of Law. His work focuses on artificial intelligence, intellectual property, technology transactions, privacy, cybersecurity, and the commercialization of emerging technologies.

Nguyen has practiced technology law for more than 25 years. He currently advises clients on cybersecurity, intellectual property, and internet-of-things matters and serves on the Florida Supreme Court’s Judicial Management Council, where he advises on artificial-intelligence strategy and court administration.

Before joining the University of Florida, Nguyen was executive general counsel of GE Digital, where he led legal teams supporting artificial intelligence, machine learning, industrial internet-of-things, cloud-services, and digital-transformation products. Earlier, he served as legal director at Nuance Communications, deputy general counsel at Decision Resources, counsel for Science Commons at Creative Commons, corporate counsel at Business Objects, and an associate in the Technology Transactions Group at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. He has also held academic roles at the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law and guest lectured at Brooklyn Law School.

Nguyen earned a J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School, where he served as notes editor of the Harvard Journal of Law & Technology. He also earned a bachelor’s in chemistry, summa cum laude, from Harvard University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and served as a Ledecky Fellow.

He is admitted to the State Bar of California and registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
