Shaowen Bardzell
Shaowen Bardzell is chair of the School of Interactive Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology College of Computing and a professor of interactive computing.
Her research examines humanistic informatics, feminist approaches to human-computer interaction, and sustainable-design practices, including care ethics, women’s health, and social-change applications of computing.
She previously served on the faculty of the Pennsylvania State University College of Information Sciences and Technology. Before that, she held faculty appointments at Indiana University Bloomington, where she advanced from assistant professor to associate professor after joining the School of Informatics and Computing.
Bardzell first joined academia as a visiting assistant professor in the School of Public Health at Indiana University Bloomington. She then served as an assistant professor in the School of Informatics and Computing at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis.
She received the SIGCHI Societal Impact Award in 2023, was named to the CHI Academy in 2024, and was recognized as an ACM Distinguished Member in 2025.
She earned a Ph.D. in comparative literature and a master’s in comparative literature from Indiana University Bloomington. She received a bachelor’s from Tunghai University.
