Brian McManus

Brian McManus is a professor of economics and chair of the Department of Economics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He previously served as the department’s director of graduate studies.

His research focuses on empirical microeconomics, particularly industrial organization and public economics. His work examines firms’ entry and exit decisions, pricing and competition, health care markets, and products associated with charitable causes and other public goods.

McManus joined the University of North Carolina as an assistant professor in 2008 and became a professor in 2019. Before joining UNC, he was an assistant professor of economics at Washington University in St. Louis’ Olin Business School. He received UNC’s Song/Park Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching in 2016.

McManus earned a Ph.D. and master’s in economics from the University of Virginia and a bachelor’s in economics and government, with honors, from the College of William & Mary.
