Alba Ribera Martínez

Alba Ribera Martínez is an assistant professor of law and technology at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and a visiting professor of digital-platform regulation at the Brussels Study Center.

Her research focuses on European Union competition law, digital-platform regulation, data protection, fundamental rights, and the governance of data-driven markets. Her doctoral research examined the interaction between EU competition law and data-protection interests.

Ribera Martínez is editor-in-chief of Stanford Computational Antitrust and serves on the editorial board of The Antitrust Bulletin. She is also an editor of the “Surveys” section of the Journal of European Competition Law & Practice and the Kluwer Competition Law Blog. She contributes to CentroCompetencia and the Concurrences Digital Markets Act Chronicle and is a member of the Academic Society for Competition Law.

Before joining VU Amsterdam, Ribera Martínez taught competition law and digital-platform regulation at Universidad Villanueva. She previously worked at Spain’s National Commission on Markets and Competition, where she served as an assistant researcher to the council and held positions in the Competition Directorate and the chief of staff’s office.

Ribera Martínez earned a Ph.D. in competition law, summa cum laude, and a master’s in competition law from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. She also earned a master’s in legal practice from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and a bachelor’s in law, with high honors, from Universitat Jaume I. She completed advanced coursework in EU competition law at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
