Aaron Lane

Aaron Lane is a senior lecturer in law at RMIT University in Melbourne and a barrister at the Victorian Bar. His research examines how regulation affects innovation, with a focus on blockchain, cryptocurrency, competition law, and emerging technology. His legal practice covers commercial and public law, regulatory matters, and white-collar crime.

Lane previously served as a senior fellow at George Washington University’s Competition & Innovation Lab and a senior research fellow at the RMIT Blockchain Innovation Hub. Before joining the Victorian Bar, he was special counsel at Duxton Hill and a lawyer at Maddocks. He co-wrote “Cryptodemocracy: How Blockchain Can Radically Expand Democratic Choice” and received RMIT’s 2023 Award for Research Impact for an early career researcher.

He holds a doctorate in law from RMIT, a master’s degree from the University of Divinity, and bachelor’s degrees in commerce and law from Deakin University.
