ANNOUNCEMENT: ICLE Names Brian Albrecht as Chief Economist

PORTLAND, Ore. (Feb. 22, 2022) — The International Center for Law & Economics (ICLE) today announced that it has named Brian Albrecht to serve as ICLE’s chief economist.

As chief economist, Brian is responsible for the application and integration of theoretical and empirical economic methodologies into ICLE’s research. He takes over the role from Eric Fruits, who will continue to serve as an ICLE senior scholar.

Brian comes to ICLE from Kennesaw State University, where he is an assistant professor of economics in the Coles College of Business. His research focuses on price theory, information economics, competition and innovation, and political economy.

Brian’s recent publications include “Positive public economics: reinterpreting ‘optimal’ policies” in the Journal of Economic Methodology and “Preventing plunder: Military technology, capital accumulation, and economic growth,” co-authored with Joshua R. Hendrickson and Alexander William Salter for the Journal of Macroeconomics.

His popular writing has appeared in the Boston Globe, The Hill, and City Journal, among other outlets. Brian also writes the Economic Forces newsletter for Substack and can be found on Twitter at @BrianCAlbrecht.

He earned his PhD in economics from the University of Minnesota in 2020. He previously earned his M.A. in economics, also from the University of Minnesota, and an M.Sc. in economics of public policy from the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics. He received his bachelor’s in physics and political science from St. Olaf College.
